About Me

Hello, I’m Kirsty, a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behaviour Therapist.

We can only change what we’re aware of. Daily life is fast paced so it can be hard to be aware of what’s really going on, why you’re feeling the way you do, why things feel unmanageable, why the changes you’re trying to make aren’t sticking.

With awareness and know-how, you can let go of critical and worried thoughts, ease your anxiety and stress, and meet yourself with compassion.

That’s where I come in.

As your therapist, I’m committed to helping you get to the root of your problems and providing you with the information, tools, and techniques you need to cultivate coping strategies for your individual circumstances so that you can move forward with confidence and autonomy.

Common problems I help people with are anxiety, overwhelm, overthinking, procrastination, self-esteem, stress, and worry.

I provide online therapy via Zoom which means that sessions will be in the comfort of your own home.

I chose to train in CBT because I believe in the power that lies within each of us to understand ourselves, to notice patterns in our thinking and behaviours, and to bring about real change.

Out-with our time together, I reflect on how the sessions are going, plan ideas for upcoming sessions, and I regularly engage in workshops and clinical supervision to ensure best working practice.

“The atmosphere during our sessions was friendly and relaxed, yet Kirsty skilfully guided me towards understanding my issues and identifying actionable goals.”

I am always inspired by my clients and I feel privileged to be invited into clients’ lives, thoughts, and feelings until ready to continue without me.

I regularly review health and wellness books on my blog, so if you’re looking for your next read, have a look to see if one of my recommendations takes your fancy.

When I’m not working, I love to run, do yoga, read, and travel, and enjoy good coffee!

Why I became a therapist

I always had an interest in helping people; I even won an enterprising award in primary school for my fundraising efforts. But sadly it was a bereavement in my childhood that first introduced me to the world of therapy, although I didn’t realise then that I’d be sitting in the therapist’s chair one day.

I studied French and Spanish at university and loved deep-diving into other cultures and language systems; there was something so fascinating to me about how humans relate to each other, the identities we take on, and how our perspective is influenced by our surroundings. During my Masters degree in Translation Studies, I began to view language as a vehicle for meaning and for understanding ourselves, other people, and the world.

I had to take this further. I had to understand more about humans, about how our minds work, about how we relate to each other and ourselves.

I studied Counselling Skills and chose to specialise in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and I have honed my skills in community and corporate settings and in my private practice. I bring my wealth of knowledge and experience to my work.

I believe in the importance of understanding the past to make sustainable change in the present as our early years inform our belief systems, thought processes, and behavioural coping strategies.

That’s enough about me for now, I’d love to know more about you. Let’s get started.
